I vividly remember being a kid racing home everyday to catch the latest episode of G.I. Joe. When I heard that Paramount was producing doing a big screen, live action version of the iconic cartoon series, I was definitely gassed up. That is, until I read that Marlon Wayans would be playing a major role as one of the soldiers of G.I. Joe. I was instantly hit with visions of a Loe Dog sucking a pacifier and holding a 40oz in ‘Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood’. I then shook my head thinking, ‘I hope they don’t f* this movie up’.
Marlon Wayans is well known for his over the top physical humor and often painfully funny, facial expressions. The question now is, how serious will his role as G.I. Joe soldier Ripcord in the upcoming ‘G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra’. I honestly can’t remember ever seeing Marlon Wayans in a serious role. Not that being a soldier in a shoot’em up flick is too serious. It’s just very hard to imagine Shawn’s little brother as a badass, machine gun toting tough guy.
However, with that being said, I do believe he’s talented enough to pull it off. In fact I’m hoping he does for the sake of the film and because it would be a pleasant surprise.
Paramount pictures is set to release the film on August 7th, 2009.
