The Game Plan starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Madison Pettis, is overall your typical Disney cliché, cute sarcastic kid finds lost parent, film. Johnson plays Joe ‘The King’ Kingman, a star quarterback with a ego as fat as his pockets, who finds out he has an 8-year-old daughter, Peyton, that shows up to his door one day out the blue. Am I the only one that finds it a little weird that no one ever gets a paternity test in these type of movies?
As usual once Joe and Peyton are establishing a great father daughter bond something happens in the movie to break them apart, and that is when Joe really comes to see that he can’t live without her. Disney produces the type of moments in the film that will make daughters without fathers or who are separated from their fathers cry, as well as bring tears to the eyes of fathers separated from their kids. I had to check my ticket stub while in the theater to make sure I wasn’t watching “Parent Trap” or “It Takes Two”. Does Disney have a calculated amount of time they have to wait before putting out a film with a similar concept to one they’ve already done?
Besides the typical Disney plot, Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson played his role very well. And with Madison Pettis already being a Disney product, she brought just the right amount of charm and sarcasm to the film. I would give the film a perfect 5 yet, I’ve seen it many times over the past ten years. Therefore I can only rate it a 3 out of 5.
