Madea was missing in action in Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Prey’s” and she wasn’t missed.
Tyler Perry produced an extraordinary film that exhibits what happens when individuals put themselves first instead of family.
In this film Alice Pratt (Alfred Woodard), a hard-working woman with deep family values, and her close friend Charlotte Cartwright learn to live for themselves as their children’s extramarital and business affairs unravel the lives of both families.
Alice’s daughter Andrea starts cheating on her trusting husband Chris with her boss William who also happens to be the son of Charlotte. The antics of Andrea leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth including her sister, Pam who just wants to guide the family in a more positive direction. As if cheating on his own wife isn’t enough, William is also focused on taking over his mother’s company behind her back.
Both Alice and Charlotte decided it was their time to have a little fun and decide to drive cross country, like Oprah and Gale. Yet unlike Oprah and Gale, the trip becomes an eye opener for Alice as she finds out, Charlotte isn’t out just to have fun but more so to take in the last of her days.
“The Family That Prey’s” unlike many other family based films, hits its audience with a very unpredictable ending.
Perry and cast did an excellent job of developing the characters in this film. Sanaa Lathan and Taraji P. Henson were phenomenal, as well as the rest of the cast.
Looking back on where Tyler Perry started with his theatrical plays to his latest master piece should be a great inspiration to all those interested in a career in film.
